St James Ward - Alan McDermott

Alan was born in South Wales and raised in North Kent and moved into the area in 1977.

Alan was made redundant after many years working as a trader in the City and then worked locally in the printing industry for several years before his retirement.
A keen sportsman all his life, he played cricket and football for local teams. He now plays golf in Hawkhurst and bowls for Frant. A truly traveling sportsman.

He was a member of the Tunbridge Wells Round Table for five years and he has been a member of the Pantiles Rotary Club since 1988 (Past President and now Secretary).

He has been associated with West Kent Young Enterprise since 1999. Having been Area Chairman for four years, he is still a Board member and acts as an Advisor on an ad-hoc basis. In his free time he is also a Volunteer Steward at Scotney Castle.

If elected as your Councillor Alan will:-

Actively support any measures which will maintain and improve economic vitality of the Borough of Tunbridge Wells.
Make certain that pressure for new development does not compromise the quality of our environment and heritage.
Increase the pressure on the Contractors responsible for maintenance of street lighting to reduce the time lights are out of action.
Work with the County Councillor to enable better and more accessible nursery provision that parents can afford.
Make sure that the 'yob culture' is not allowed to put at risk local peoples' quality of life.
Engage with young people and explore initiatives to get them 'off the streets'.
Bring pressure to bear on Government and the County Council to increase expenditure on road and pavement maintenance.
Support any initiatives which make life easier for the elderly in our society, including better social care.
Encourage new strategies to deal with the effect of traffic on our Borough.
Be actively involved in developing a first-class Town Hall administration that is responsive to the needs of residents.
