Speldhurst and Bidborough Ward - Julian Stanyer

Julian is a self-employed Chartered Surveyor, married to Anne for nearly 37 years, and has three grown up children, all of whom attended Langton Primary School

Julian has lived in Langton for over twenty years and for the last twelve years has worked in the fastest growing development area in Europe, the Thames Gateway. This has helped Julian to understand, better than most, the current pressures for development and the threat this sometimes poses to communities such as our own.

Julian intends to make certain that any pressure for new development does not compromise our quality of life or put at risk the future prosperity and heritage of our town.

Julian has also top-flight experience as a Corporate Director for a London Borough, and he would use his operational and managerial experience of local government in the task of making Tunbridge Wells an acknowledged 'excellent' authority.

He has also been actively involved with a number of organisations in a voluntary capacity. He is currently a Community Governor with a primary school in the East End of London, and he would use his experience of community involvement in supporting any new initiatives involving the young and the elderly.

From the foregoing you will quickly realise that Julian has the experience, energy and commitment to make a difference as your ward councillor and asks for your support on election day to make this happen.

If elected, Julian will:

Lobby to maintain the integrity of the Green Belt and our special environment.
Work with our MP to declassify back gardens as "brownfield land" and resist inappropriate development in residential areas.

Maintain the pressure on reducing speeding through the villages, including providing "Speedwatch" schemes and interactive speed signs.

Continue to fully support the efforts of the Parish Councils in their aim to extend the number of buses serving outlying villages and rural areas
Work with the police and other partner organisations to ensure anti-social behaviour is dealt with promptly and effectively.
Keep a watching brief for any proposals which may resurrect the need for a Park and Ride site in our Ward
Reduce the rate of annual increase in the Borough Council Tax.
