Southborough & High Brooms Ward - Joe Simmons

Joe is a local resident living in Southborough, married and with a daughter who attended Tonbridge Grammar School. He has had a wide-ranging international business career in a variety of marketing and general management roles with multi-national organisations. Joe is an active member of St. Dunstan's Church, Southborough and a keen Francophile. Currently he teaches at London Metropolitan University, where he is a senior lecturer in the Business School. He also runs his own management consultancy.

For the past four years he has represented Southborough & High Brooms as one of your Borough Councillors and has been active in representing the interests of local residents in the areas of planning, highways and housing. He is particularly concerned about the traffic situation on the A26 - both in terms of congestion and safety - and has actively pursued these at the Joint Transportation Board.

He is also very concerned about the additional burdens that central government continues to impose on local authorities, without compensating local people for the extra costs involved.

If re-elected, Joe will:

Continue with the campaign to achieve safer crossing points on the A26.
As a part of the comprehensive survey of speed limits in Tunbridge Wells shortly to be carried out by Kent Highways - push for lower speed limits on the A26.

Continue pressing, with the Town Council, for a satisfactory outcome to the negotiations for a new Southborough hub and supermarket.

Give every assistance to the football clubs to attain their ambition of a new sports pavilion.
Continue working with the residents and the High Weald project with improvements to the Barnett's Wood Nature Reserve.
Work with the Member of Parliament and the County Councillor to ensure that the Castle Hill to Pembury bypass A21 road improvements are not delayed because of unwarranted additional cost increases.
Be available as a community champion to all residents of the Ward.
