Pembury Ward - Paul Barrington-King

"I am honoured and happy to once again be selected as your Pembury candidate for the Borough elections on May 1st. I have dedicated the last ten years of my life to ensure that our village remains a unique and special place for us all.

I am proud to state that I chose Pembury not only as a place to live but also the place to raise my family. From the moment I was welcomed into our community I was determined to 'do my bit' wherever possible to maintain the quality of life for us all.

As a Parish Councillor I gained invaluable experience at grassroots level in what matters to our residents. Working alongside our Parish team as Chairman of Public Relations, we accomplished many achievements such as the excellent annual firework display which is now firmly placed on the regional calendar. I also served in a similar capacity as a Governor at Pembury Primary School in being Chairman of Public Relations and Marketing.

I was elected as a Borough Councillor in 2002 and I was soon appointed as Vice-Chair of the Overview Committee. As a result of my record in this post, I was next given the role of Chairman of the Policy and Development Committee. At the same time I was determined not to forget our local needs, and established a regular Pembury Village surgery for residents to meet me personally to express their needs and concerns. I have been at the forefront in seeking and securing grants for our village organizations and clubs. I am also proud that I cycled 500 miles in 5 days from Germany to Pembury to raise thousands of pounds for our youngsters in the village."

Paul is the Cabinet Member with responsibility for Environment and Street Scene. He is also the Councils' representative on the South East Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership Board.

All he asks is that you give a few minutes of your time on May 1st to cast your vote in his favour - he does not preach at you, but listens to you and works for you. Do not let him down!

If re-elected, Paul will:-

Pursue the introduction of the collection of dry recyclables such as plastics and cans from your doorstep as a part of the tendering exercise for a new waste contract later this year.
Seek the best solution for our ever-growing traffic management and parking pressures based on the borough-wide parking survey presently being carried out by our appointed consultants.
Lobby KCC for additional funding to implement traffic calming measures in Pembury.
Work to ensure that the £330,000 the Borough Council is being forced, by central government to subsidise the scheme, offers the best access for our senior citizens.
Continue to support our young people in the village.
Work with the community to challenge any repetition of anti-social behaviour.
Act a focal point for Pembury in addressing any problems that may be within the gift of the Borough Council to ensure the new Pembury hospital does not suffer any
unnecessary delays.
