Capel Ward - Brian Ransley

Brian and his wife Sharon have lived in the Borough of Tunbridge Wells for the past 21 years.

They have three children: Alexander is at Nottingham University reading Theology, Christopher, after completing his A levels, has qualified to teach abroad and is about to spend a year in Indonesia teaching English as a second language to foreign students, whilst Eleanor is in the midst of her GCSEs at St Gregory's school.

Brian, a B.Sc(Eng) by profession, has a background in traffic engineering, specialising in railway and road traffic signalling. He has already made a number of suggestions and improvements to traffic flow and road capacity within the Borough of Tunbridge Wells and he is well respected by his fellow traffic management professionals.

He is currently working as a consultant to several private companies. He is also a qualified assessor in the Government's "Train-to-Gain" scheme for workplace NVQs.

In his spare time Brian is a Bridge Life Master and is a member of several clubs in London and locally. He was once a keen club cricketer and footballer and is also a qualified cricket umpire. Other interests include cycling, naval warfare, and historical railways.

If elected Brian will:-

Carry out intensive negotiations with KCC and the Borough to reduce the impact of HGV Lorries using the villages as a rat run, with the aim of creating a signed alternative route away from residential areas.

Vigorously lobby KCC to bring forward the scheme, already in their forward plan, to commence construction of the Colts Hill bypass.

Work with his fellow Councillors at County and Borough level to modify existing and future schemes in order to reduce traffic congestion and resultant pollution
Press for better standards of street cleanliness in the borough. Although better use is being made of the recycling facilities, litter and fly tipping are still a major problem in some parts.
Work with all the Councils, the Environment Agency and the Upper Medway Drainage Board to commission flood relief schemes that will minimise the threat of flooding in the area.
Work closely with the Parish and Borough Council to provide affordable housing for local people especially the young and elderly.
Assure the residents of his intention to sit on the daytime planning committees of the council and see that the interests of the local people will be properly represented in the future.
